Congratulations to the DLSZ Tracksters, Giro Don Rafael Gito (DLSZ 2027) and Pia Gienne Meiko Gito (DLSZ 2034) for their podium finishes in the Melaka International Swim Bike Run 2024 held on August 25, 2024, at Encore – Melaka, Malaysia.
Giro Gito (DLSZ 2027) is the CHAMPION in the Super Sprint Aquathlon Male 13 to 15 years old age group, and ranked number 1 overall out of 40 international aquathletes. Giro also claimed the fastest swim time and run time for the 300M open water swim in the straits of Melaka and a 2 KM run along the perimeter of the Encore. He dominated the race early in the swim, never looked back through transition, and ran to the finish line. Giro’s strength is in swimming, but nevertheless his run improved thanks to the guidance of DLSZ Tracksters, Coach Jonah Genilza. This is Giro’s 1st Championship in his 4th international race.
Pia Gito, (DLSZ 2034) won 1st runner-up in the KiTS Aquathlon Female 8 to 9 years old category. She competed in a 50M open water swim and a 500M run format. This is Pia’s 4th podium finish in 4 international races, two of which she is the Champion.
Additionally, the Giro siblings also won in the My Daily Collagen Super Duathlon held in Vermosa Sports Hub on September 1, 2024. Giro won 2nd runner-up in the Super Duathlon 13 to 15 years old category. Giro was part of a 4-man lead pack who dominated the entire race. Their lead was over 3 minutes from the 5th place racer. Pia is the Champion in her category 9 to 10 years old Kids Duathlon. She clocked in a total time of 13:01, over 40 seconds ahead of the next racer.
The Gito siblings train under Coach Jonah Genilza of the DLSZ Athletics Junior Tracksters team and Coach Garry Domingo of the DLSZ Swimming Junior Tankers team. They train relentlessly almost every day to hone their skills in running, swimming, cycling, duathlon, aquathlon, and triathlon to bring glory to the school and country.
