
Singapore Cadet Cup, Cadet Women’s Foil: Ranked 5th out of 38 fencers
Asian Cadet Cup (Malaysia) and 13th Malaysia Open Fencing Championships
Miyake Capina (DLSZ 2027) and Martina Baccay (DLSZ 2027) proudly represented the Philippine Cadet Team in the prestigious Asian Cadet Cup, held in Malaysia last September 2-5 2024. Competing in the individual event, Miyake delivered an impressive performance, winning 2 out of 4 bouts in the first pool and 4 out of 5 in the second pool, securing 14th place heading into the direct elimination rounds. In a closely contested match against Kazakhstan, she narrowly lost 11-15, finishing 20th overall.

13th Malaysia Open Fencing Championships, Senior Women’s Foil: Ranked 8th out of 24 fencers
Martina Baccay won 1 out of 4 bouts in the first round of pools and 2 out of 5 bouts in the second, ranking 31st overall. She then faced a fellow Filipino fencer, winning 9-8, and advanced to the second round of direct elimination, where she competed against Hong Kong, finishing with a score of 15-7 and placing 30th overall. Martina also participated in the Malaysian Opens, where she advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Australia in the direct elimination round, finishing 8th overall after competing against Malaysia.
On September 5, Miyake teamed up with Victoria Ebdane and Jodie Tan from Canlas Fencing, and Regina Pascual from Republic Fencing for the team event. The Philippine Cadet Team advanced to the medal rounds after a dominant 45-21 win over Macau. In the semifinals, they upset the second-seeded Kazakhstan team with a 45-28 victory, earning a spot in the finals. The team secured the silver medal after a challenging final against top-seeded Hong Kong, finishing with a score of 21-45.
Singapore Cadet Cup
Miyake flew to Singapore to also represent DLSZ at the Singapore Cadet Cup, part of the country’s national ranking series. She won all her pool bouts, earning a 5th place ranking. In the direct elimination rounds, Miyake achieved a decisive 15-1 victory in her first match, followed by a 15-9 win in the second round, advancing her to the quarterfinals. She ultimately faced a tough Singaporean opponent and finished with a score of 9-15, placing 5th overall.

Singapore Cadet Cup, Cadet Men’s Sabre: Ranked 18th out of 48 fencers
In the same tournament, Vito Coching (DLSZ 2026) competed in the Men’s Sabre event. In his first international competition, Vito won 4 out of 6 bouts in the pools, securing 18th place out of 48 fencers—an impressive debut performance. Coach Gian Nocum was present to support both athletes during the event.
