Discovering Space: A Look Back at the NASA-HASSE Space School Adventure

The NASA-HASSE Space School, held from June 15- 26, 2023, was a two-week program in Houston, Texas, where DLSZ students were given the opportunity to explore STEM fields and collaborate with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) experts. The exciting curriculum included hands-on projects, visits to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, and a Space Company Simulation Project.

The students learned about space missions and STEM’s role in shaping our world. The program, organized by HASSE and Ivicon LLC, provided a unique chance to interact with NASA astronauts, scientists, and engineers. The learning expedition included visits to the Mission Control Center and the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, where our students experienced a simulation of the International Space Station’s exterior.

Further, the Space Company Simulation Project allowed students to design, build, and launch their own space company, culminating in the Innovation Excellence Award competition. Previous participants, like those from Batch J95, shared how the program sparked their interest in space exploration, robotics, and paleontology.
