Congratulations to Kris John Paul Gonzales (DLSZ 2019) who placed second runner-up in the First International Youth Opera Competition held in Victoria Concert Hall, Singapore last June 2-4, 2022. Kris was part of the Top 6 finalists out of the 60 contestants, under the Senior Category competition held on June 4, 2022. Kris also participated in the Masterclass and vocal-related workshops. Participants for the competition and workshops came from Indonesia, Singapore, United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
Kris was once a member of the DLSZ Senior High School Chorale. On his facebook page, he shares this winning glory with his family and his parents, Mr. Noel and Ms. Eileen Gonzales, his mentor, Mr. Christopher Arceo, and friends who have tirelessly supported him in this musical journey. It has been his lifelong dream to be able to compete and perform internationally, and it has been his advocacy to make classical music appreciated and accessible to everyone, especially to the Filipino youth. He is currently taking up AB Communication at Ateneo de Manila University and is a chorister under the Ateneo Glee Club.
The Youth Opera Comique (YOC) are composed of passionate young opera singers with a desire to hone their operatic performance skills. Through the International Youth Opera Festival, young singers were given opportunities to perform in “unique, refreshing productions” and exposure to the Opera as an art form.
