6. SAFETY AND SECURITY
Keeping your children safe and secure while at school is our top priority and the school management took the opportunity at the very outset of the planning of this new campus to seek the most modern of integrated security and safety solutions that readily adapt to the dynamic design of the campus buildings.
In our desire to provide the students with an open, bright and user-friendly campus, we still had to ensure we could protect both people and property. We engaged the services of specialist systems consultants who studied the design criteria and undertook exhaustive canvassing of qualified systems integrators and today, our new campus has the most modern systems akin to the very best systems available anywhere in the world.
For example, we have chosen VESDA as the fire detections system. VESDA is an acronym for Very Early Smoke Detection Alert.
Unlike the old smoke detectors which we have all seen for the last three decades, VESDA employs a continuous air sampling system where ambient air is literally sucked in and analyzed for smoke particles which in turn provides the earliest possible warning of an impending fire hazard. VESDA aspirating smoke detectors buy the critical time needed to investigate an alarm and initiate an appropriate evacuation response to prevent injury, property damage or school disruption.
We are proud to be one of the first educational institutions in the region to install such an advanced life safety systems. Using VESDA we can pinpoint the source of the alert at least 10 minutes faster than the old conventional systems. This buffer in the worst-case scenario saves lives and property
Listed below is a snapshot of the new safety and security measures we are adopting to safeguard students and personnel and to effect positive student learning in the classroom.
Visitor Registration: All visitors must register at the reception and be issued a temporary I.D. before having access to the building; No I.D. No Entry.
Anyone not showing an I.D. will be challenged by security or staff.
All school staff, as well as all students, must prominently display ID badges at all times when on campus.
Closed Circuit Television: We currently have more than 90 digital cameras deployed covering about 95% of the building area and close perimeter.
The objectives of the CCTV system are to assist with the safety and wellbeing of the pupils, staff and school and to detect, record and report incidents such as accidental falls, strangers on premises, vandalism, violence and bullying, vehicle congestion, vehicle protection, property theft.
Door Access Control: All key doors are remotely controlled and monitored. Doors are programmed to be locked and unlocked via a schedule.
All doors are equipped with push to exit buttons and triple failsafe backups.
During emergencies, all doors will be automatically unlocked.
Door Access Control allows for quicker response time in the event of an emergency.
Fire Drills: Regular fire drills ensure our students and staff are prepared for a quick exit of our buildings in the event of an emergency. Security personnel will receive recurrent training on the use of fire extinguishers and the activation of the embedded sprinkler system.
24‐Hour Security Monitoring: The school has implemented around the clock systems monitoring to supplement and enhance the physical security presence.
PABX – The school has invested in a digital PABX which will connect both campuses. Parents can contact Vermosa at no charge.
Training: Comprehensive training on systems and emergency procedures will be an ongoing feature of the new campus. As the campus matures, the commitment to recurrent training and emergency response practice will increment accordingly.
As we have invested wisely in the people, processes, infrastructure, and communications to help safeguard your children and protect the school, rest assured that if and when an emergency arises, our staff will be there and trained to respond in a timely and appropriate manner.
