DLSZ Lady Archer Makes it to Next Round in Two National Qualifying Competition

Our very own Andrea Catalina Pardo Orbeta (DLSZ 2013), placed third overall after the four distances in the SEA Games first qualifying round in the women’s recurve division.  Two important qualifying competitions in archery were held last February 8 – 10 at the Philippine Sports Commission open field at the ULTRA complex in Pasig. The events attracted elite archers from around the country covering four divisions: Recurve Men & Women and Compound Men & Women.
She still has two more qualifying rounds to secure a spot on the Philippine team to the SEA Games in Myanmar if archery will be among the events to be included. In the next event, the qualifying round for the Asian Grand Prix, Andrea again made it through the top 4 and has been officially included in the Philippine team to compete in the Recurve Women’s division in March.
The first event held on February 8 & 9 was the first of three qualifying stages for this year’s Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) to be held in Myanmar in November.  The competitions used a single FITA round format used in international and world championship events, authorized by the Fédération Internationale de Tir à l’Arc (FITA), the world governing body of the sport.
The round consists of 144 arrows, 36 at each of 4 distances. For men the distances are 90, 70, 50, and 30 metres while the women used 70, 60, 50, and 30 meters.
The second event held on February 10 was the qualifying competition for the First Asian Grand Prix tournament to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on March 9 to 14.  This time the format was a Double 70m qualifying round with the top four archers in each division to be officially included in the Philippine team.
