PreMYo Rizal 2012 Invites Students to Join the Nationwide Essay Writing Contest

Grade school (Grades 6 to 7) and high school (3rd to 4th year) students are invited to join the PreMYo Rizal Nationwide Essay Writing Contest on the life and works of national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
For the grade school level, participants are expected to write an essay in Filipino answering the question “Kung nabubuhay si Rizal ngayon, ano ang nais mong sabihin o itanong sa kanya?”  They are also given a set of questions to choose from for a letter to be written to the national hero.
Each high school participant is tasked to compose an essay in English expressing his or her ideas and feelings about a character from Rizal’s novels,  Noli Me Tangere or El Filibusterismo, that is relevant to today’s Philippine society and political reality.
Deadline of entries is on September 30, 2012.
PreMYo Rizal is  organized by MyRizal150 in collaboration with the Department of Education.   Its objective is to “reach out to the Filipino youth and challenge them to learn more about Rizal, articulate what he stood for, and think of ways they can emulate his idealism in their own lives. At the same time, by giving value to essay writing, MyRizal and the DepEd hope to elevate critical thinking and literary writing to a higher standard, and to hold up our young writers as role models worthy of acclaim and public admiration!” (http://myrizal150.com/2011/11/the-search-is-on-for-the-pinoy-literary-idol/)
Last year, Jose Agustin Crisostomo (DLSZ 2013) was one of the finalists in the said contest.
