Zobel Parliament’s Performance in Fast Forward 2021

Last November 13-14, 10 debaters competed in UP Debate Society’s Fast Forward.

Following the four (4) preliminary rounds against multiple high schools on the first day, all five (5) teams broke. With:

  • DLSZ A (Pineda & Lee) broke 4th in the Open Category beating 10 teams in the preliminary rounds, accumulating 636 combined speaker points. Getting two 1sts, and two 2nds.
  • DLSZ B (Ronquillo & Lachaona) broke 7th in the Open Category beating 10 teams in the preliminary rounds, accumulating 630 combined speaker points. Getting two 1sts, and two 2nds.
  • DLSZ C (Sering & Tan) broke 32nd in the Open Category beating eight teams in the preliminary rounds, accumulating 613 combined speaker points. Getting two 1sts, and one 2nd. 
  • DLSZ D (Laigo & Eslabon) broke 3rd in the Novice Category beating eight teams in the preliminary rounds, accumulating 607 combined speaker points. Getting two 1sts, and one 2nd.
  • DLSZ E (Tayag & Lim) broke 10th in the Novice Category beating seven teams in the preliminary rounds, accumulating 610 combined speaker points. Getting three 2nds.

The elimination rounds were more challenging than the preliminary rounds. In each break round, only two out of the four teams in each room would advance. The following are the outround results of each team:

  • DLSZ A (Pineda & Lee) ending their run as Open Quarterfinalists. Bowing out to debaters from Philippine Science High School – Main Campus and PAREF Southridge.
  • DLSZ B (Ronquillo & Lachaona) ending their run as Open Semifinalists. Bowing out to debaters from Immaculate Conception Academy and La Salle Greenhills.
  • DLSZ C (Sering & Tan) ending their run as Open Grand Finalists. Bowing out to debaters from Immaculate Conception Academy, Philippine Science High School – Main Campus, and La Salle Green Hills.
  • DLSZ D (Laigo & Eslabon) ending their run as Novice Grand Finalists. Bowing out to debaters from Ateneo De Zamboanga University – Senior High School, Oriental Mindoro National High School, and Miriam College.
  • DLSZ E (Tayag & Lim) ending their run as Novice Semifinalists. Bowing out to debaters from Ateneo De Zamboanga University – Senior High School and Oriental Mindoro National High School.

Speakers from the contingent were also awarded speaker awards out of the 329 debaters that competed in the tournament:

  • Paris Pineda (DLSZ A) was awarded the Open Overall Best Speaker award with a speaker score average of 80.00.
  • Jessica Lee (DLSZ A) was awarded the Open 5th Best Speaker award with a speaker score average of 79.00.
  • Therese Lachaona (DLSZ B) was awarded the Open 7th Best Speaker award with a speaker score average of 78.75.
  • Leonna Ronquillo (DLSZ B) was awarded the Open 7th Best Speaker award with a speaker score average of 78.75.
