Lasallian Partners Represent PH at ASEF ClassNet19 Austria
Two (2) Lasallian Partners from De La Salle Santiago Zobel School proudly represented the Philippines at the 19th ASEF Classroom Network Conference (ASEF ClassNet19), held from September 21-25, 2026, in Innsbruck, Austria.
Mr. Gerald Gamboa and Mr. Neil Aldrin Olvina were two (2) of only three (3) Filipino teachers selected to participate in the international conference, each representing their respective international team and presenting their own Innovative Teaching Practice (ITP). The third Philippine delegate was a Special Science Teacher from the Philippine Science High School.
The five-day conference brought together educators from across Asia and Europe to explore the theme of “Future-Ready Teaching: Human Agency in the Age of AI.” Throughout the conference, the delegates participated in keynote sessions, thematic workshops, parallel innovation sessions, roundtable discussions, and innovation competitions, engaging in meaningful exchanges with educators from different countries.
Mr. Gerald Gamboa, a BRafeNHS Research Teacher, was selected to represent his international team, EduAlliance, and present their Innovative Teaching Practice (ITP) entitled “Epistemic Agency Cycle (EAC): A Pedagogical Framework for Human Agency Development in AI-Mediated Learning.”
EduAlliance is composed of four (4) educators from Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and the Philippines, together with their mentor from Estonia.
The EAC framework reframes learning as a process of epistemic decision-making, where students are expected to exercise judgment about when to think independently, when to engage with AI, how to critically examine AI-generated outputs, and how to reflect on AI’s influence on their own cognition. Through EAC, Mr. Gamboa and the EduAlliance team advocate for an approach to AI-integrated education in which technology enhances learning without displacing the learner’s responsibility to think, question, decide, and take ownership of the final work.
Mr. Neil Aldrin Olvina, a Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Teacher, was likewise independently selected to represent his international team and present their Innovative Teaching Practice (ITP) at ASEF ClassNet19.
Their ITP, “Learning Without Borders: Advocating for Quality Education (SDG 4) Through an AI-Based Reflective Module and DiversifAI Chatbot,” brings together students from the Philippines, Switzerland, Bangladesh, Mongolia, and Portugal to share experiences, explore challenges in education, and learn from one another. Through reflection, community research, and cross-cultural conversations, students are encouraged to share their own ideas, make informed choices, and take action for better education. The AI-based platform provides a practical example of how AI can support learning while keeping students’ voice, choices, and judgment at the center.
The participation of Mr. Gamboa and Mr. Olvina in ASEF ClassNet19 reflects the growing contribution of DLSZ to international conversations on education, innovation, and the future of learning.
As two (2) independently selected representatives of their respective international teams, both teachers brought their own practices, experiences, and perspectives to a diverse community of educators from Asia and Europe. Their participation also provided opportunities to learn from international peers, exchange classroom practices, and explore emerging approaches to teaching and learning.
Their participation goes beyond international representation. It reflects the school’s commitment to developing educators who are innovative, reflective, globally engaged, and responsive to the evolving needs of learners and society.
As education continues to be transformed by Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies, Lasallian Partners remain committed to ensuring that innovation remains anchored in meaningful learning, human agency, and the development of the whole person.
