Last November 12 to 15, 2025, we participated in the LEAD International EcoCamp 2025, a pioneering event within the Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD) held at the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction in Silang, Cavite.

This meaningful gathering brought together delegates from the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, all united by their shared commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.

The participants were the following students:

  • Francesca Raxine Garcia (DLSZ 2031)
  • Jzian Trevor Damien Malaki (DLSZ 2031)

A Journey of Stewardship and Inspiration: Chesca’s Lens

As a representative of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, I learned that change starts with us—we need to seek the beauty of nature, preserve God’s creations, and encourage others to join us in working towards environmental sustainability.

During the 4-day event, we were able to participate in various sessions with environmental advocates. I was especially inspired by Mr.  AG Saño, a photographer and artist who encouraged us to find our motivation in caring for our common home.  Aside from that, we also took action through artwork as a creative response, a vision board for our goals as stewards of creation, and group brainstorming between delegates for possible programs/solutions to inspire young Lasallians to care for the Earth.

Finding Purpose in Environmental Advocacy: Jzian’s Testimony

As a young Lasallian who cares deeply for the Earth, this experience strengthened my commitment to help protect our environment. The experience reminded me why this advocacy is important, and it encouraged me to continue taking action in my own community.

After attending this meaningful experience, I plan to encourage proper waste segregation, reduce single-use plastics, and support ongoing environmental programs in school. I also want to continue joining future LEAD activities so I can keep learning and growing as a young advocate for our common home.

This experience strengthened my commitment to environmental stewardship. Inspired by Laudato Si’, I hope to move forward by leading through small but meaningful actions and by encouraging others to do the same.

The Ecocamp sought to empower young Lasallians to become proactive advocates for sustainability within their respective communities. Through interactive workshops, reflective sessions, and insightful discussions, participants explored the links between environmental protection, social justice, equity, and spiritual stewardship.

Overall, we are grateful to have been given the opportunity to join Ecocamp through the support of Mr. Ben Sazon, Social Action Ministry Head, and Mr. Karl Sartiga, TUGON Moderator and Junior High School – Social Action Minister, who guided us all throughout the event. We hope to participate in more LEAD events while continuing to take climate action within our community.
