Congratulations Pi Durden Wangkay (DLSZ 2027) for winning the 200-m gold at the Asian Youth Games held last October 25, 2025 in Manama, Bahrain. Pi clocked 21.76 seconds to finish first place, setting a new Philippine U18 record.
As one of the promising student-athletes in DLSZ, he aspires to break more records in his beloved sport and become a successful athlete. Pi’s mindset is worth emulating as he encourages others not to shy away from the discomforts of life, to seize the opportunity at hand, and to always strive for what is best for oneself and others.
On winning his first international major competition, he shared, “iniba ko po yung mindset ko dito. Ginawa ko po in-imagine ko yung sarili ko na local meet lang, na deserve ko ‘to. Sobrang sarap po sa pakiramdam na hindi lang sa Palaro ako nanalo, dito rin ako nanalo.” (source: ABS- CBN Sports)
He also won a double gold in the 100m and 200m sprints of the 2025 Palarong Pambansa in Laoag, Ilocos Norte last May, similar to one of his mother’s feats, Coach Jonah Genilza, who is part of DLSZ’s Track and Field Coaching team.
Pi continues to exemplify determination and discipline. Pi’s latest win marked a new record not just for him but also for DLSZ. What a meaningful winning streak for Pi!
