STEM Students Embark on Global Learning in Taiwan: A Glimpse into 2025 NSYSU International Science Immersion Camp

The NSYSU participants during their campus and laboratory tour at National Sun Yatsen University

By: Mailyn B. Soliman, STEM Strand Head

Two (2) of our STEM students, Joshua Daniel Ang (DLSZ 2025) and Joshua Elijah Luzon (DLSZ 2025), engaged in an exciting and challenging international academic adventure as they participated in the 2025 National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) International Science Immersion last June 15-22, 2025, at Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The camp convened 24 student delegates from various schools across Asia, which offers a unique blend of hands-on laboratory work, field trips, and cultural activities, providing both theoretical and practical learning experiences. The delegates explore diverse research fields and gain valuable insights in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, AI, Engineering, and Marine Sciences.

Limitless STEM Possibilities: Highlights of the Camp

For the entire one (1) week, the delegates were immersed in scientific lectures, laboratory experiments, and cross-cultural collaboration, which made this event exciting and challenging while learning. It also gives them an avenue to experience real-world scientific exploration, hone scientific skills, and appreciate culture and diversity. Here are some of the activities:

  • Marine Environment and Engineering Hydrodynamics & Ocean Technology Laboratory (HOTLAB)
  • Photonics Liquid Crystal Photonics Lab
  • Electrical Engineering Testable And Reliable Systems Lab
  • Physics Computational materials research and artificial intelligence
  • Physics Low temperature physics Lab
  • Biological Sciences Cell Biology Lab
  • Biological Sciences Plant Stress Physiology Lab
  • Chemistry Materials Chemistry Lab
  • Chemistry Nanomaterial Research Group
  • Marine Biotechnology and Resources: Marine Chemicobiology Laboratory

This program is an initiative to expand students’ global perspectives, enhance cultural scientific collaboration, and deepen their understanding of advanced research practices through intensive hands-on and laboratory activities.
