DLSZ students both finished in the top 10 of the ASIA TRIATHLON CUP PUTRAJAYA 2024 held last February 25, 2024, in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
Pia Gito (DLSZ 2034) won 1st place in the KiTs Aquathlon Female 8 to 9 y/o Category. She swam 50M in the open water Lake of Marina Putrajaya and ran a 500M sprint towards the finish line. Pia was the overall winner even beating the boys of the same age category. She is the only Filipina participant in the Malaysian-dominated event.
On the other hand, Giro Gito (DLSZ 2027) placed 7th out of 32 Aquathletes in the Super Sprint Aquathlon Male 13 to 15 y/o category. He was the first out of the 300M open water lake swim clocking in at 4 minutes and 23 seconds, the fastest in the super sprint distance category for all age groups and genders in Aquathlon and Triathlon. However, the run was his waterloo, and fell short of dominating the 2500M run.
The Triathlon Philippines sent the National Triathlon Team athletes to represent the flag and compete in the Elite category of the said event. The Gito siblings are part of the developmental youth athletes of Triathlon Philippines.
Giro and Pia train under Coach Jonah Genilza of the DLSZ Athletics Junior Tracksters team and Coach Garry Domingo of the DLSZ Swimming Junior Tankers team. They train relentlessly almost every day to hone their skills in running and swimming to bring glory to the school and country.
