Empower a woman, and you empower a community.” – Cherie Blair
This March, we are celebrating International Women’s Month to raise awareness for women’s rights and to advocate for gender equality.
The United Nations officially recognized the International Women’s Day in 1977 and is celebrated on March 8th every year. For the UN countries, It is a day to honor the achievements of women without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, or political. On this day, the ongoing struggles for gender equality are also the focus of discussions and conversations.
DLSZ, as a Catholic institution that is committed in promoting, protecting, and fulfilling the rights of women through celebrates Women’s Month through various activities organized by its Social Action Office:

● WEAR PURPLE! (March 20 – 21) Trivia: The International Women’s Day uses the color purple to signify justice and dignity, its origins can be traced to the use of purple by the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the United Kingdom in 1908 in their fight for suffrage or the right to vote. Purple represented royalty and “the royal blood that flows in the veins of every suffragette, the instinct of freedom and dignity.” Today purple still represents women’s strength and determination in the face of adversity, as well as unity and solidarity among women.
