
Southeast Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Championships 2025
Miyake Capina (DLSZ 2027) and Vito Coching (DLSZ 2026) proudly represented De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) Fencing and the Philippines as part of the national delegation to the Southeast Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Championships 2025, held last July 20 to 24, 2025 in Malaysia.
Competing against top athletes from across Southeast Asia, these two Lasallian fencers delivered outstanding performances.
Miyake Capina (DLSZ 2027) – Junior Women’s Foil Individual (Silver Medalist)
Miyake went undefeated in the poules, earning the #1 seed entering the direct elimination rounds.
- Round of 16: Defeated Malaysia, 15-5
- Quarterfinals: Beat Singapore, 14-5
- Semifinals: Won against a fellow Philippine teammate, 15-9
- Finals: Faced Malaysia again and settled for Silver with a 7-15 result
She displayed skill, focus, and steady progress throughout the competition, earning a well-deserved Silver medal.
Vito Coching (DLSZ 2026) – Junior Men’s Saber Individual (Top 8 Finish)
Vito won three (3) out of five (5) bouts in the poules, securing a strong seeding for the elimination rounds.
- Round of 16: Defeated Malaysia, 15-11
- Quarterfinals: Scored a standout win over top-seeded Singapore, 15-13
- Semifinals: Faced Malaysia again and finished with a 9-15 loss
Vito ended the event ranked 7th overall in the Junior Men’s Saber Individual category.
Junior Team Events – Philippine Team A
Miyake and Vito also competed in the Junior Team events as part of the Philippine Team A, earning Gold and Bronze medals, respectively.
Junior Women’s Foil Team – Gold Medal
Miyake joined forces with the Canlas Fencing Team. They secured the Gold medal, capping off a dominant team performance.
- Semifinals: Defeated Malaysia Team B, 45-23
- Finals: Beat Philippines Team B, 45-34
Junior Men’s Saber Team – Bronze Medal
Vito also teamed up with the University of the East (UE) to represent the Philippines. In the semi-finals, they faced a hard-fought match against Malaysia, narrowly missing a spot in the finals with a close 43–45 score. The team proudly brought home a Bronze medal for the country.
Cadet Category Performances
Miyake Capina – Cadet Women’s Foil Individual (Bronze Medalist)
Despite a rough start in the poules, with only two (2) wins out of five (5) bouts, Miyake entered the eliminations ranked 16th and launched an impressive comeback. Miyake earned a Bronze medal after a strong and determined run.
- Round of 32: Defeated Malaysia, 15-8
- Round of 16: Pulled off a major upset over the #1-ranked Singaporean fencer, 15-5
- Quarterfinals: Beat Indonesia, 15-9
- Semifinals: Fell to a fellow Philippine teammate, 5-15
Vito Coching – Cadet Men’s Saber
Vito had a solid poules performance, winning four (4) out of six (6) bouts, placing him as the 9th seed. After two (2) elimination rounds, he finished 9th overall in the Cadet Men’s Saber category.
DLSZ Fencing Team Shines at PFA National Rankings in Ormoc City

They also brought home Silver and Bronze medals and strong finishes from the Philippine Fencing Association (PFA) National Rankings held last June 3 to 6, 2025 in Ormoc City, Leyte.
