JHS GEM STUDENTS SHINE IN VARIOUS MATH COMPETITIONS

Several JHS Goals for Excellence in Mathematics (GEM) students shone in various mathematics competitions such as the Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), Math Without Borders (Winter and Spring Rounds), HKIMO (Hong Kong International Math Olympiad), and Math League.
SASMO is a Singapore based competition and is one of the largest math contests in Asia. The JHS winners are:

  •  Anton Mikhail Gonzales – (DLSZ 2025) – Gold
  • Christian Gendrano – (DLSZ 2024) – Gold
  • Chelsea Lianne Tan Gomez – (DLSZ 2023) – Silver
  • Martin Johan Ocho – (DLSZ 2023) – Silver
  • Chelsea Marie Echevarria – (DLSZ 2023) -Bronze
  • Raphael Antonio Caguiat – (DLSZ 2023) – Bronze
  • John Eulogio Rodriguez – (DLSZ 2024) -Bronze
  • Marcus Julian Ocho – (DLSZ 2022) – Bronze

These students qualified for the Philippine Team for the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) to be held in Singapore from July 6-9, 2019, while the SASMO Gold and Silver medalists in addition, qualified for the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July 26-30, 2019.
Math Without Borders is an age-group competition held remotely in three rounds (Autumn, Winter and Spring) and ends with a final contest in Nessebar, Bulgaria.
Math Without Borders (Winter Round) winners are:

  • Annika Logarta – (DLSZ 2023) – Silver
  • Martin Johan Ocho – (DLSZ 2023 ) – Silver
  • Mikaelle Dominique Karo – (DLSZ 2021) – Bronze
  • Anton Mikhail Gonzales – (DLSZ 2025) – Bronze
  • Maria Tricia Ocho – (DLSZ 2025) – Bronze
  • Marcus Julian Ocho – (DLSZ 2022) – Bronze
  • John Eulogio Rodriguez – (DLSZ 2024) – Bronze

Math Without Borders (Spring Round) winners are:

  • Christian Gendrano – (DLSZ 2024) – Silver
  • Anton Mikhail Gonzales – (DLSZ 2025) – Bronze
  • Martin Johan Ocho – (DLSZ 2023) – Bronze
  • John Eulogio Rodriguez – (DLSZ 2024) – Bronze

HKIMO is a Hong Kong based examination consisting of 5 main topics: Logical Thinking, Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, and Combinatorics. HKIMO Heat Rounds was held at UP College of Statistics last June 2, 2019 and the JHS winners are:

  • Christian Gendrano – (DLSZ 2024) – Gold
  • Martin Johan Ocho – (DLSZ 2023) – Gold
  • Chelsea Marie Echevarria – (DLSZ 2023) – Gold
  • Tricia Jasmin Ocho – (DLSZ 2025) – Silver
  • Chelsea Lianne Gomez – (DLSZ 2023) – Silver
  • Marcus Julian Ocho – (DLSZ 2022) – Silver

All six of them qualified to be part of the Philippine Team for the final round to be held in Hong Kong, China from August 30 – September 2, 2019.
Math League is the largest network of local and state math competitions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in the United States. The Math League Philippine Nationals were held last April 17, 2019 at Makati Hope Christian School, and the following JHS emerged as winners, qualifying for the mathleague.org UN National Championships:

  • Chelsea Lianne Gomez – (DLSZ 2023) -Top 5
  • Christian Gendrano – (DLSZ 2024) -Top 7

The above students were trained by GEM teachers Mr. Albert N. Pagilagan and Mr. Gerard Ferrer under the JHS Math Department.
