Global Alternative Learning Experience (GALE) in the Big Apple

“I want to wake up in that city that doesn’t sleep, to find I’m the king of the hill, top of the heap…”. So goes the song New York, New York written by Fred Ebb in 1977.

This is exactly what happened to the forty-five delegates of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School during their Global Alternative Learning Experience in New York.

Composed of enthusiastic student-leaders, the selected group of Grades 7 to 12 young Lasallians participated in the first-ever GALE held last April 21 to May 1, 2018. It is a new program aligned with the Alternative Learning Experience program of the school which aims to foster global citizenship and cultural exposure.
The group was able to experience K-12 curriculum at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial High School in Brooklyn, New York, Microsoft Sales Office visit in Manhattan, Broadway musical play, campus tour and student council interaction in La Salle University in Pennsylvania and Princeton University, a tour at the World Bank Headquarter in Washington D.C., and a visit to the famous landmarks such as the White House, Capitol Hill, and several Smithsonian Museums.
A collaboration between the Student Clubs and Activities Office and the Educational Technology Unit, the maiden GALE experience aimed to enrich specific academic lessons into more meaningful and tangible experiences to deserving students across the high school level.
Congratulations to all the GALE delegates! Animo La Salle!
