Lasallian Swimmers Triumph in International Events

Lasallian swimmers once again does our country proud. Last November 21 to 29, twelve (12) of the top youth swimmers of the country coming from different UAAP and NCAA schools competed in the 7th ASEAN SCHOOL GAMES held in Brunei, Darussalam. Three of those swimmers came from La Salle schools, namely MAURICE SACHO ILUSTRE (DLSZ 2018) and NICOLE MEAH PAMINTUAN (DLSZ 2019) from DLSZ and Neil Puyo from DLSU.

It is the first time that the Philippines won medals in its 7 years in participating in this event. Our swimmers placed 5th getting a total of six medals–ALL COMING from Lasallian swimmers. Sacho Ilustre won a silver medal finish in the 100-meter freestyle event and 2 bronze medals coming from the 200-meter butterfly and freestyle events. Nikki Pamintuan fought hard to secure a bronze medal in the 200 meter backstroke and De La Salle University’s Neil Puyo secured also a bronze medal finish for the 200-meter backstroke.  Sacho and Nikki are the reigning UAAP Junior Swimming MVPs and Neil Puyo is the Season 78 Rookie of the Year for the seniors division.

Another De La Salle Zobel swimmer SETH ISAAC MARTIN won a bronze medal finish in the recently concluded SOUTH EAST ASIAN AGE GROUP SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS held in Vietnam. Seth, recovering from Dengue and being hospitalised for four days just a week before leaving for Vietnam, swam his heart out to amazingly secure a medal finish.

“It is our goal to bring back the glory days of La Salle swimming and make our community proud” said Lawrence Sahagun, team manager. “The goal as shared to me by Br. Bernie is to be able  to contribute to Philippine sports by once again producing Olympians (swimming) coming from De La Salle Zobel… It will take time, but we are on the right track for the 2020 Olympics.”

ANIMO LA SALLE!
