The weekend proved very productive and successful for our neophyte debaters in the recently-concluded Interscholastic Debaters Association (IDeA) Lite competition held at the University of Santo Tomas High School. Â Our school was represented by the teams of Michael Anthony R. Abala (DLSZ 2015) and Miguel Angelo C. Villar (DLSZ 2015), Team B; Alessandra Isabel Z. Narciso (DLSZ 2014) and Anthony Loreso M. Aguillo (DLSZ 2014), Team A; and Teofilo Giovan Pugeda III (DLSZ 2013) and Nathaniel Ryan H. Vasay (DLSZ 2013), Team C. Â The two-day competition was participated in by some 60 teams from over 20 schools in Metro Manila.
All of our three teams qualified for the quarterfinals, Teams A and C qualified for the semi-finals, and Team C advanced to the finals and was pitted against Ateneo Teams A, B, and C. Â The final debate motion was, “This House believes that student feedback should be given weight in Faculty Promotion”. Our Team C was closing opposition, and although they were not successful, it was already a mean feat for them to have made it to the finals on their first attempt at debating.
Next competition shall be the Children’s Museum and Library, Inc. (CMLI) sponsored Balboa Cup (Asian Parliamentary format) on August 11, 12, and 18, 2012 at Claret School in Quezon City.
