The DLSZ Music Groups together with Mr. Gary V<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

HIMIG LASALYANO<\/em><\/strong>, held on February 27 and 28, 2025, is an annual event of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) celebrating National Arts Month. It was a special moment for all of us in the DLSZ Chorale, Symphonic Band, Rondalla, MusiKawayan, Strings, and RAK\u2014a time where we shared our passion, supported one another and experienced the unifying power of music. More than just a concert, it was a testament to the dedication and love each music group brings to their craft, making the event a truly memorable and meaningful experience for both performers and the audience. This year, we had the privilege of welcoming a true icon\u2014an artist whose music has inspired and impacted generations: Mr. Gary \u201cGary V\u201d Valenciano.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The production would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of fellow students who all share the same passion for song and music. The evening opened with the DLSZ Chorale, led by Mr. Michael Kenneth Fabian. The group showcased a phenomenal performance with an array of songs from the iconic movie Wicked arranged by Mr. Michael Kenneth Fabian, and Ta Na Solbici (And so we Dance in Resia) by Samo Vovk, a song sung in Slovenian. Their harmonies filled the theater with beautiful emotion and dynamics. The next group of performers, waiting right behind the Chorale, was the DLSZ Symphonic Band\u2014led by Mr. Linwell Lalic and Ms. Mary Armine Carpio\u2014which brought funk and pop to the stage with songs by BINI Medley arranged by Raymond Conge and Earth Wind & Fire Dance Mix arranged by Paul Murtha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next was the DLSZ Rondalla, under Sir Philip\u2019s baton, transporting the audience with the Rondalla\u2019s version of Alvamar Overture arranged by Elaine Espejo-Cajucom, Can Can by Jacques Offenbach, and OPM hits from the \u201990s. After the Rondalla\u2019s number, Soprano Alexiya Gabrielle Torroba from grade 12 sang O Mio Babbino Caro by Giacomo Puccini and Sa Kabukiran by Manuel Velez with her assisting pianist Ms. Jaydee De Ocampo-Lalic. Ending the first part of the program.

Opening the second part of the program, the DLSZ MusiKawayan, led by Ms. Ruby Cosico performed their rendition of OPM Medley arranged by Mr. Rafael Del Rosario, Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko arranged by Col. Gilbert Ramos and Awiting Bayan Medley arranged by Mr. Ace Gadia which brought heartfelt nostalgia. The DLSZ Strings, under the baton of Mr. Leopold Sumera, Jr. and Ms. Joanna Camille Mendez-De Leon followed, showcasing intense emotion and expressive sounds of Wheels of Fury by Chris Thomas, Perseus by Soon Hee Newbold and 7 Variations on Filipino Folk Tune Ahay Tubara by Alejandro Consolacion. Ms. Shelly Isaga also performed together with the group. For the last music group, keeping the audience alive was our own DLSZ RAK under the moderation of Mr. Daryl Galicia. Their singers, guitarists, drummers, bassists, and pianists brought intense fire and electric energy on stage by singing Yugyugan mashup with Hey Barbara, Salamin Salamin, and Manghuhula. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A proud Lasallian himself, Mr. Gary Valenciano returned to inspire the next generation of musicians at DLSZ. He took the stage with \u201cHataw Na\u201d<\/em>, delivering an electrifying performance. With his signature energy, he sang, rapped, and danced effortlessly, proving why he\u2019s called Mr. Pure Energy. One of the most unforgettable moments of his introduction was when he played the kulintang before seamlessly transitioning into a rap, blending tradition with modern music in a way that amazed us all. His performance of \u201cI Will Be Here\u201d<\/em> was nothing short of enchanting, drawing the audience into its deep emotion. When he sang \u201cWarrior is a Child\u201d<\/em>, he reminded us of God\u2019s promise in the bible, \u201cHe will never leave you nor forsake you” Hebrews 13:5<\/em>\u00a0 sharing to the audience that even the strongest face struggles and God is on our side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it was \u201cSaranggola\u201d<\/em> that carried the most profound message of the night. Before performing, he shared how dreams, like kites, are meant to take flight when met with the right wind. He reminded us, \u201cYoung ones if you have dreams, those dreams are specifically meant for you to fulfill.\u201d <\/em>He spoke about the challenges we fear, emphasizing that they may be what push us higher, helping us soar rather than just fly. He encouraged us to take that first step, embrace failure, and trust that every setback is part of becoming who we are meant to be. His message was a reminder of passion, perseverance, and faith\u2014the very things that turn dreams into reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Gary V then closed his performance with \u201cDi Bale Na Lang\u201d<\/em>, an upbeat and lively song that had the entire audience singing along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To end the performance, all music groups came together to perform our collaboration piece: Ryan Cayabyab Medley, which combined every aspect of music in one song. With the heart of the Symphonic Band, Rondalla,\u00a0 the rhythmic MusiKawayan, the strings from violins, violas, guitars, basses, and more, the beautiful melodies from the chorale, and many many more. This song is very special because it combines every single music group together and unifies them into one beautiful joyful experience\u2014not just for the audience but also the musicians. It truly shows how music brings people together into one, no matter who we are individually, we are all connected on stage through music.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those of us in the Chorale, Symphonic Band, Rondalla, MusiKawayan, Strings, and RAK, HIMIG LASALYANO<\/em><\/strong> was more than a concert\u2014it was an experience that created lasting memories for every musician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As members of the Symphonic Band, we have faced many hardships and challenges in preparation for this event. However, those experiences\u2014the months of dedication and hard work\u2014have helped us build our sound and ourselves. As senior high school students, preparing for the next chapter of our lives can feel overwhelming, but the Symphonic Band has been a source of comfort and support. Whether rehearsing in the orchestra room or performing on stage, music has always been our escape, allowing us to express ourselves beyond words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music, in its purest form, is a testament to the goodness of life, it brings with it the promise of even brighter tomorrows ahead. That is why when we are inside the band room, rehearsing with our bandmates from the Symphonic Band, it feels as cozy and comforting as the warmth of home. More than anything, the friendships we have built over the years make this experience even more special. Our bandmates have become more than just fellow musicians; they have become family, and that bond is what makes this journey truly unforgettable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, HIMIG LASALYANO<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 was a testament to the dedication and passion of our school\u2019s young musicians, showcasing the countless hours of practice, teamwork, and commitment that brought each performance to life. It was not only a milestone in our growth as performers but also a deeply personal experience, serving as a powerful source of inspiration that fuels our determination to pursue what we love.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music truly is a universal language that brings people together, allowing us to share stories and emotions beyond words. Each musician comes from a different background, yet we are connected through music, sharing in the same struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs. We strive and work hard to show everyone just how amazing music can be. Without the guidance of our teachers and the support of our fellow musicians, we would not be able to be the people we are today, or able to do what brings happiness to us and around us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the words of Gary Valenciano, \u201cMusic is the language of the soul, and when it is music, it does not mean you have to sing. You can just play music, and it will still express the language that comes from within.\u201d<\/em> With that, we are reminded that music is something we live, share, and pass on\u2014an art form that has the power to connect and unite us all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
