Luminare Focuses on Being the Light this Advent Season

The entire Lasallian community welcomes the advent season with joyful songs and shared prayers, highlighted by its annual lighting ceremony, known as Luminare, in the campus.
Luminare focuses on Jesus Christ as our source of light, thus the theme “The coming of Christ as light of the world”. It was held last December 2, 2013 at 5:30 pm in front of CPA building, attended by Lasallian Partners, students, parents, alumni, and guests.

The ceremony began with an opening prayer led by Sean Dominique Brago (DLSZ 2019) followed by the singing of melodious Christmas song by the DLSZ Chorale, under the tutelage of Ms. Teresita Panaligan. Ms. Emma Cristobal, Human Resource Management and Development Department (HRMDD) Director, recited the Passage Reading.

Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC, in his reflection, mentioned that our brothers and sisters who were affected by Typhoon Yolanda are experiencing darkness this season of Advent. We, as Lasallians, can be their source of light. Jesus, through deep faith, is the light that can overcome their darkness.

“Jesus is truly the light in De La Salle Zobel; and our Lasallian Tradition says that Jesus lives in our hearts forever; if we let Jesus live in our hearts forever, then we should be the light for others,” Br. Bernie stated. “I pray that all of us will truly have Jesus in our hearts this season, that we will have all our efforts to be light to others and for others especially to those in darkness. If we do this, I am sure you will experience the joy, the peace, the love, and the light that God has promised each and every one of us this season. So pray with me and be one with me in witnessing the light.”

For the Prayer Petition, the Student Representative Coordinating Council (SRCC) prepared a short video followed by the prayer intentions offered by multi-sectoral representatives from the alumni, parents, students, administrators, teachers, and staff. While prayers are being offered, other representatives from the aforementioned ceremonially lit the candles and positioned them around the manger.

Rafael Vasquez Jr. (DLSZ 2014), BRafeNHS Student Government President, led the closing prayer. Before the program ended, Br. Bernie warmly declared “Luminare” to officially signal the lighting of the campus.

The DLSZ Chorale concluded the night with engaging rendition of a medley of well-loved Christmas carols.

Nikko Antonio Cabrera (DLSZ 2014) and Ana Rafaela Sarmiento (DLSZ 2015) were the Master of Ceremonies for this year’s Luminare.
