GEM Students Qualify in MTAP Sectoral Finals

For the second straight year, all levels of the High School Goal of Excellence in Math (GEM) students qualify in the Sectoral Finals of the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge. This contest is the biggest math contest in the Philippines which is participated in by elementary and high school students from both public and private schools all over the country. The contest is implemented by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc., the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines, and the Department of Education.
After taking the elimination test held last January 19, 2013 at Pedro E. Diaz High School, the GEM teams emerged as 1 of only 20 schools from all private schools in the NCR who moved on to the Sectoral Finals last February 16, 2013 at the Philippine Science High School, Quezon City. At this phase, the GEM teams competed with the “heavyweights” of math competitions that include several Chinese schools and science high schools.

The GEM teams are composed of:
Freshmen: Daniella Kristin Marie R. Evan, Grant Lewis M. Bulaong, John Philip S. Lee
Sophomores: Nikko Angelo S. Carisma, Maria Nicole D. Cacanando, Carlos Benedict F. Echevarria
Juniors: Alec Lemuel B. Lim, Joseph Rosh L. Perez, Veronica Elaine S. Suarez
Seniors: Nathaniel Ryan H. Vasay, Edgardo Joaquin C. Sevilla

Kudos to GEM Teachers Mr. Albert Morris Pagilagan, Mr. Gerald Ferrer, Mr. Mark Joseph Mendoza, and Mr. Mark Xyburt Rodelas for tirelessly honing the skills of our young mathematicians. The GEM Team is headed by Ms. Elizabeth Ortiguero, HS Math Coordinator.
