DLSZ’s Pride in Music Perform in One La Salle Night of Excellence

Last October 28, 2011, De La Salle Santiago Zobel’s (DLSZ)  very own Symphony Orchestra, Elite Rondalla, Elite Angklung, Key of Z and Chorale, together with Juan Miguel Salvador and The  Authority Band, performed at the One La Salle Night of Excellence (OLSNOE) during the Centennial World Congress held at the Sylvia P. Lina Theater.

The DLSZ Symphony Orchestra played its rendition of “Saint’s Hallelujah” under the baton of Mr. Arnaldo Custodio at the opening of the program. Under the same baton, the DLSZ Elite Rondalla, Elite Angklung, Chorale, Key of Z, Authority Band and the Symphony Orchestra performed a Beatles Medley. Meanwhile, the Symphony Orchestra, Elite Rondalla, and Elite Angklung conducted by Mr. Linwell H. Lalic, Ms. Jeannelou L. Corales, and Ms. Ruby Cosico respectively presented their version of “The Prayer”.  The DLSZ Chorale, Key of Z, and the Symphony Orchestra serenaded the audience with the song, “What a Wonderful World” under the tutelage of Ms. Marites Panaligan, Ms. Marcelina Flores and Mr. Custodio.
The hospitality and musical talents of DLSZ students touched Mr. Salvador, who arranged most of the songs performed that night. Mr. Custodio, DLSZ’s artist in residence for music, arranged the Alma Mater song with Mr. Salvador.
DLSZ’s use of indigenous musical instruments has proven that the Center for Performing Arts is worthy of the title, “CCP of the South”.  Standing ovation and a massive round of applause resounded in the theater as the audience showed their admiration to the performers.
DLSZ hosted this year’s OLSNOE, one of the Centennial celebration highlights of the De La Salle Alumni Association (DLSAA) Centennial World Congress and the Union of Lasallian Former Students (UMAEL) Congress where they give recognition to outstanding Lasallian graduates.  Mr. Rico Hizon of BBC World News fame and Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado, a DLSZ alumna served as emcees for the night.
