City Officials declared Muntinlupa a “dengue hotspot” on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, due to an alarming increase in the number of dengue cases. According to a report, majority of the dengue cases were recorded in the villages of Putatan, Tunasan, Poblacion, Ayala-Alabang, Bayanan and Cupang.(http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=717432&publicationSubCategoryId=93).
To address this concern, De La Salle Santiago Zobel (DLSZ), located at the heart of Ayala Alabang Village, has taken the following actions:
- Installation of 150 units of electric mosquito repellant around the campus;
- Purchase of more mosquito repellant lotions to be made available in the clinic;
- Misting and fumigation of the whole campus every other Sunday.
- Daily cleaning and general cleaning on Saturdays of all classrooms and public areas;
- Regular washing, sorting and hauling of garbage to remove breeding place for mosquitoes;
- Removal of water plants in offices and regular rehabilitation of plants placed inside office/facilities;
- Dissemination of information on dengue to the students, employees, and guests through varied media.
In addition, all students are advised to wear long pants and use mosquito repellant lotion/patch to minimize future cases of insect bites from mosquito carriers.
