President's Office Weekly (POW) July 31 – August 6 2011

This message was delivered by the School President during a Seminar entitled How to Bully-Proof Your Child held in DLSZ last August 5 2011. The members of the audience were mostly composed of DLSZ parents.
——
Last school year, the school administration, together with the School Counseling Office (SCO), decided to seriously face three of our worst enemies in school:
1. Bullying
2. Fraternity and
3. Prohibited Drugs

In the seriousness of our desire, we dedicated one special day each month to remind us, adults and students alike, that these three have no place in our school. That is why, every 5th day of the month, the SCO makes it a point to have special activities such as seminars, advocacy work and some other fun stuff to keep everyone aware of the evils of this triumvirate. We have had anti-bullying seminars and workshops for our own students and even the bus drivers and conductors. We also brought in specialists to talk about adults bullying other adults as this sometimes happens in the workplace. Staff, teachers and administrators attended these seminars and they were thankful for the opportunity to review their own actions towards others.
I thank you all for coming today because bullying is such a tricky situation. We need a concerted effort for this concern because preventing bullying before it really happens is so difficult to do. But it can be done.
Our school should be safe from bullies, whether they are your children’s school mates, bus mates or even for us adults in school, our work mates. As an analogy, policemen on a mission are expected to wear bullet-proof vests for safety reasons. When you ride the motorized boat in Bohol or Boracay, you are required by local laws to wear the life-vests even though the sun is shining, the wind blows softly and the sea is calm. The same is true in bully-proofing your kids. Prevention is always better than the cure.
That’s what they say about wellness products which have become our passion in the last few years. I know you LOVE organic food? We believe that they are good for us because they have Zero Calories, No Cholesterol and 100% Fat Free.
You will LOVE De La Salle Zobel also as we continue to make it
*Zero Drugs
*No Bullies
And *100% Frat-Free.
