GRADE SCHOOL GEM MATHLETES WIN IN 2018 METROBANK – MTAP – DEPED MATH CHALLENGE

Congratulations to our own Grade School mathletes from the Goals for Excellence in Mathematics (GEM) Program for their victory during the 2018 Metrobank – MTAP – DepED Math Challenge (MMC).
The 2018 MMC season started with the Elimination Round. This round is in the form of a written test administered to all participating schools in NCR. DLSZ’s participating teams composed of the following students:
Grade 1 Team (DLSZ 2029): Kylie Isabella Rivera, Amanda Celestine Calaquian, Jan Rei Tanudtanud, Euna Millennia Verzo
Grade 2 Team (DLSZ 2028): Matt Gerard Navarro, Johan Gabriel Pantoni, Jacob Eulogio Rodriguez IV, Gian Gabriel Ignacio
Grade 3 Team (DLSZ 2027): Gian Louis Valenciano, Gian Nicolas Casimiro, Aldrich Johan Kimwell, Emmanuel Jace Savellano
Grade 4 Team (DLSZ 2026): Jacob Bernas, Gael Azure Ilano, Julia Bernadette Cruz, Rachelle Victoria Guintivano
Grade 5 Team (DLSZ 2025): Athena Gabrielle Kimwell, Chae Eun Jang, Alex Gohockaun Goh, Anton Mikhail Gonzales
Grade 6 Team (DLSZ 2024): Christian Gendrano, John Eulogio Rodriguez III, Allen Conner Hizon
 
At the end of the Elimination Round held in Muntinlupa Science High School last January 18, 2018, seven of our participating mathletes got merit awards:
Christian Gendrano (DLSZ 2024)             – First Honor
Athena Gabrielle Kimwell (DLSZ 2025)   – Second Honor
Julia Bernadette Cruz (DLSZ 2026)         – Third Honor
Anton Mikhail Gonzales (DLSZ 2025)      – Third Honor
Chae Eun Jang (DLSZ 2025)                    – Third Honor
Alex Gohockaun Goh (DLSZ 2025)          – Third Honor
John Eulogio Rodriguez III (DLSZ 2024) – Third Honor
The Elimination Round also determined that all of our MMC teams are qualified for the Team Area Finals.
 
In the Team Area Finals last February 8 at MGC New Life Christian Academy, DLSZ competed with other private schools of Area 3 (Muntinlupa, Taguig, Paranaque, Las Pinas). By the end of the Team Area Finals the DLSZ teams got the following results:
Grade 2 Team (DLSZ 2028): 1st Place out of 9 teams (Gold Medalists)
Members: Matt Gerard Navarro, Johan Gabriel Pantoni, Jacob Eulogio Rodriguez IV
Grade 3 Team (DLSZ 2027): 2nd Place out of 18 teams (Silver Medalists)
Members: Gian Nicolas Casimiro, Gian Louis Valenciano, Aldrich Johan Kimwell
Grade 4 Team (DLSZ 2026): 2nd Place out of 18 teams (Silver Medalists)
Members: Jacob Bernas, Julia Bernadette Cruz, Gael Azure Ilano
Grade 5 Team (DLSZ 2025): 2nd Place out of 18 teams (Silver Medalists)
Members: Chae Eun Jang, Athena Gabrielle Kimwell, Alex Gohockaun Goh
 
After the Elimination Round came the Individual Sectoral and Regional Finals. By the end of this round held in Marikina Elementary School last February 8, 2018, two of our mathletes were in the Top 10 for both Sectoral and Regional categories:
Johan Gabriel Pantoni (DLSZ 2028): 5th Place (Sectoral), 5th Place (Regional)
Gian Louis Valenciano (DLSZ 2027): 3rd Place (Sectoral), 3rd Place (Regional)
 
After the Team Area Finals came the Team Sectoral Finals. This round, held last February 24, 2018 in MGC New Life Christian Academy, involves all the private schools in NCR who qualified from the Team Area Finals. At the end of this competition, the DLSZ representative teams for Grades 2, 3, and 4 got the following awards and are qualified for Team Regional Finals:
Grade 2 Team (DLSZ 2028): 2nd Place out of 18 teams (Silver Medalists, trophy)
Members: Matt Gerard Navarro, Johan Gabriel Pantoni, Jacob Eulogio Rodriguez IV
Grade 4 Team (DLSZ 2026): 3rd Place out of 21 teams (Bronze Medalists, trophy)
Members: Jacob Bernas, Julia Bernadette Cruz, Gael Azure Ilano
 
The last leg of the competition was the Team Regional Finals. This was held last March 10, 2018 at Ramon Magsaysay High School, Manila. The teams for Grades 2, 3, and 4 contended along with the private and public schools of the National Capital Region. This time, the DLSZ Grade 4 team (DLSZ 2026) composed of Jacob Bernas, Julia Bernadette Cruz, and Gael Azure Ilano emerged 2nd Place and each of them won a silver medal and a trophy was given for the whole team.
 
Our own mathletes were trained by their coach, Mr. Charlie Amarela, under the Goals for Excellence in Mathematics (GEM) Program of the Grade School Department.
That was an awesome feat, our dear GS mathletes! The Lasallian community is waving green hats off to you! Animo La Salle!
