Letters of Love & Hope for Marawi

The armed conflict in Marawi has displaced many civilian families and forced them to take shelter in evacuation sites with the children becoming the most vulnerable. We may call this the worst situation in recent history of the Philippines but it has also brought out the best in other people who find ways to help the soldiers and those who have been displaced.
We are proud of one of our alumni from Batch 1995, Dr. Jose “Tiger” Garrido Jr. who has conducted medical missions in Marawi and initiated a project of putting together hygiene kits with underclothes for the soldiers. With the help of the Junior High School teachers, he was able to collect notes from our students expressing their love, hope and encouragement for the soldiers. He plans to distribute all these when he goes back to Marawi next week.
Another kind-hearted Lasallian we are proud of is one of our parents who intends to send approximately 5,000 toys to the displaced Marawi children at evacuation centers. In support of this advocacy, the school would like to request our dear parents to encourage their children to write a letter addressed to the children of Marawi in a manner that will give the latter hope and uplift their spirits. Preferably with colorful drawings or stickers, the letter should be legibly written either in Filipino or in English on a folded 1/2 sheet of short bond paper or on a greeting card, if available. Since the school hopes to collect at least 5,000 letters to go with the toys, our students are welcome to send more than one letter. The letters should be submitted to the student’s class adviser on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.
As we celebrate Eidl’ Fitr on Monday, let us be one with our Muslim brothers in Mindanao in praying for peace and join us as we stand together for God and country
