De La Salle Santiago Zobel hosts the 9th Asian Schools Debating Championship

Over 131 participants from seven (7) Asian countries convened at De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) for the 9th Asian Schools Debating Championship (ASDC) last May 15-21,2017. Founded in De La Salle University in 2009, ASDC is considered as one of the largest high school debating tournaments in Asia.
DLSZ team A composed of Joannah Angellie Vazquez (DLSZ 2017), Joseph Ken Alunan (DLSZ 2019), and Quintin Armando Chua (DLSZ 2019) bested debaters from Bangladesh, India, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam to emerge as overall champions of the tournament. PAREF Southridge Team B won the Novice Category.
Special Awards were also given: Public Speaking Champion – Kyle Chan (Xavier School) and Enrico Paragas (Xavier School); Best Adjudicator – Kip Oebanda (Adjudicating for Southridge); Tournament Best Speaker – Quintin Chua (DLSZ) and Finals Best Speaker – Ken Alunan (DLSZ) and Steven Siy (Xavier School).
Participants were also treated to a display of the homegrown talents from DLSZ as our very own Rondalla, Chorale, Jammers, Zobel Dance Crew, and Aldrich Dominic Lat (DLSZ 2017) performed during the different programs of the tournament.
The tournament was graciously supported by the City of Muntinlupa, FR Sevilla Industrial and Development Corporations, Coca-Cola FEMSA, Pringles, and Cadbury Philippines.
